I've worked as a freelance editor and writer since 2002. My book reviews and fiction have appeared in The Women's Review of BooksJane, the Chicago ReaderSalon, and The Good Men Project, among other publications.

A Virtual Trip to Fairbanks

I had the pleasure recently of visiting a classroom in Fairbanks, via Skype, to talk with some University of Alaska–Fairbanks MFA students about revision and about editing. Thank you to Assistant Professor Daryl Farmer, who directs the MFA program there, for the kind invitation, and to the MFA Friday Afternoon Club for making me feel welcome and for sharing your thoughts and questions.

Kachemak Bay Writers' Conference

I will be traveling in June to the Kachemak Bay Writers' Conference to talk about editing. Having been to Kodiak, AK, in November, I can't wait to see what Alaska's like in the summer!

Essays by Matthew Salesses

Thought Catalog Books has just released a collection of essays about Asian American masculinity by Matthew Salesses, fiction editor at The Good Men Project. (Matt has published a couple of my short stories there.) I read the preview of Different Racisms: On Stereotypes, the Individual, and Asian American Masculinity, and found it immediately engaging, compelling, and well-written. Congratulations, Matt!

Amazing Book Cover

I ran across this book cover recently and wanted to share it. I can't remember ever seeing a cover before that also struck me as such a stunning work of art in its own right. It was designed by Black Ocean publisher Janaka Stucky and artist Josh Wallis. Janaka told me that he and Josh "are old friends and have collaborated on everything from graphic novels to tattoos." Josh is happy to talk with you about any graphic design or tattoo projects you may be planning. You can reach him at joshwallistattoo@gmail.com.

Client Highlight: Steve Rodgers

Stellar stories by my client Steve Rodgers, a talented science-fiction and fantasy writer, appear in two recent anthologies. Congratulations, Steve!

Steve is also working on an epic fantasy novel that is among the best unpublished manuscripts I've read. You can read more about him and his work at his website: steverodgersauthor.com.
